He was furious when people in boarding schools doubted if teachers in public schools can teach in English language. Though it’s not hidden from anyone that teachers in public schools are a little careless and known to be involved in political parties and draw benefits from them.
This had troubled the principal of Pokhariya Higher Secondary Mr.Khemraj Bhattarai. Joining the profession in 2052, he openly challenges top boarding schools in Biratnagar and tells them not to deviate the students in public schools.
Bhattarai’s school is the only one there to adopt to English learning and he’s somewhat succeed in that part. Students in that area discard the Boarding school and move to his school is what can be seen these days. Parents too are satisfied to send their children to his school. The headmasters head is now held high after what he’s achieved. He has accomplished what he initiated. He says children don’t have to go to boarding schools to score distinctions and he urges them to move to his school for that. And he’s proven that too. His students have gotten distinctions if not first division and no one had to satisfy with second or third division whereas students in boarding schools have failed noticeably. “out of 41, 6 got distinction and other first division” says he proudly. His goal was that at least 15 would get the distinction. Nevertheless he is satisfied with the results.
Initiating to teach in English medium, the Pokhariya higher secondary school is the first school in Morang. Starting to teach in English medium since 2070, having sending off students with happy results, people in Morang are happy and feel obliged to the Public School for what it has done. “M popular people have congratulated us and promised cooperation” adds Bhattarai.
When Bhattarai joined the school in 2052 he was a teacher in the primary level. Having read in English medium he was inclined to it more and after sometime he began to teach secondary level too. He also used to teach in many other school and tuition and coaching jobs as part times. “results from public schools weren’t that satisfying” he says. “People in Boarding schools felt proud of their distinctive results though they were the outcomes of teachers of public schools and they used to condescend the students in public schools. This hurt me and I always wanted to change this” adds Bhattarai.
Govinda Ojha was the headmaster in 2066 when the school sent higher secondary, Mr. Bhattarai was the only with a Bachelor and subsequently was appointed ‘coordinator’ of the school. When Ojha retired in 67’ he took the post of the headmaster, in less than year he initiated to teach in English medium. There were of course challenges he adds.
